  • City of Oneonta
  • Oneonta, AL

Job Description

Reserve Police Officer

The City of Oneonta Police Department is seeking motivated individuals interested in serving their community and gaining valuable law enforcement experience as Reserve Police Officers.

The Reserve Officer program is designed to provide hands-on experience, training, and exposure to the day-to-day operations of a municipal police department. Reserve Officers work alongside experienced officers and have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a career in law enforcement.

This is an unpaid position. The Oneonta Police Department has historically looked to its Reserve Officer program as a source for qualified candidates when full-time Police Officer positions become available; however, reserve service does not guarantee future full-time employment.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside and assist full-time Police Officers with assigned duties.
  • Gain practical experience in patrol operations and other areas of law enforcement.
  • Assist with special events, community activities, and departmental operations.
  • Participate in departmental training and professional development.
  • Learn and follow departmental policies, procedures, and law enforcement practices.
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment while representing the City.
  • Perform other law enforcement-related duties as authorized and assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must meet applicable requirements for service as a Reserve Police Officer in Alabama.
  • Must successfully complete required background and selection processes.
  • Ability to successfully complete the APOST physical fitness test, which includes:
    • 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes, 28 seconds or less
    • Completion of the required obstacle course
    • 22 push-ups in one minute
    • 25 sit-ups in one minute
  • Strong interest in law enforcement and public service.
  • Willingness to learn, accept instruction, and work as part of a team.

The Reserve Officer program provides an opportunity to serve your community while gaining real-world law enforcement experience and learning from experienced officers. For individuals interested in pursuing a full-time law enforcement career, the program offers valuable experience and an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities within the Oneonta Police Department.

This is an unpaid reserve position.

The City of Oneonta is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
